Komoot’s New Apple Watch App Enables Offline, Phone-Free Navigation

Komoot has launched its new Apple Watch app, which supports turn-by-turn navigation, activity tracking, detailed maps and offline routes, providing cyclists with the freedom to leave their phones at home while out on a ride.

The new Komoot app for Apple Watch introduces a series of capabilities, including:

  • Effortless offline navigation and recording. Users can navigate offline routes with turn-by-turn directions and record activities directly from their watch with real-time statistics. Offline navigation is available to all Komoot users with an unlocked map region—Premium is not required.
  • A powerful map on your wrist. High-resolution and sport-specific maps including trails, paths, and street details, with the ability to zoom and pan to explore surroundings.
  • Instant route sync and Apple-exclusive features. The app includes the option to download and browse routes for offline use, complete integration with Apple Health, and support for Apple Water Lock to prevent precipitation from interacting with the screen in wet conditions.
“Our goal was to make Komoot’s Apple Watch app fully capable on its own. For many of us, the ability to disconnect is the best part of being outdoors, so we wanted the community to have the freedom to leave their phone at home—or at least in their pocket. Having the map and turn-by-turn instructions on your wrist means you can easily check directions without stopping,” says Tom Eldred, Product Manager at Komoot.

Built with the community

In 2025, the team performed over 100 user interviews and several large-scale surveys to collect feedback and better understand the needs of the community. The new Apple Watch app was one of the most common requests, and is the latest in a long list of more than 80 improvements rolled out across the platform since early 2025 as a result of this research.
One user shares, “Today I went on a hike with many turns and intersections. I used the app on my Apple Watch to check the directions frequently, and everything worked flawlessly. It’s exactly what I’ve wanted for years.”

Expanded capabilities coming soon

The Komoot team is already working on additional features to make the Komoot Apple Watch experience even more robust. These include instant sync to reflect route updates made in Komoot’s iOS app, auto-rerouting, real-time location sharing for added safety, offline activity queuing, increased customization options, and more. These changes will roll out over the course of 2026 along with other planned improvements to the core Komoot experience.
