Culling together some the top experts in the fields of composites and 3D-printing, the start-up brand Next-Gen has debuted a new gravel specific wheelset called the V7, claiming to be one of the lightest and most durable set of hoops for gravel grinding on the market.
Next-Gen enforces its claim by way of a proprietary mix of Innegra polyolefin and carbon composite materials that yield a 15% lower compressive stiffness than standard carbon fiber, giving the wheels better absorption and recovery from high impacts that can lead to failure.
Weight is also reduced thanks to this innovative fabrication process, with the V7 weighing in at 1553g, an impressive feat for a hookless, tubeless-ready design that has an 26mm internal, 33mm external width with a depth of 38.5mm.
Other features that highlight the V7 include 24-hole centerlock Industry 9 Torch hubs, a mix of Sapim CX-Ray and CX-Sprint spokes with brass nipples, 12mm thru-axles and a Shimano HG11 free-hub, while other axle set-ups and free-hubs are also available.
What’s equally impressive about the V7 wheelset, is that it’s handmade in the USA. Moreover, Next-Gen has a unique approach to marketing, wherein all of its products are sold consumer direct, thus eliminating the cost of having a “middleman” and passing the savings onto the consumer.
The Nex-Gen V7 wheelset sells for $1700, which includes tubeless tape, valves and the brand’s own sealant, along with a five year unconditional warranty on its rims.
