Based on the German brand’s Argon GX, Nicolai is showing-off its latest gearbox driven version aptly called the Argon GX Pinion.
Featuring the same bespoke aircraft-grade 7020-T6 aluminum frame, 142 x12 thru-axle dropouts and enough clearance to accommodate tires up to a whopping 650bx50mm, the Argon GX Pinion is equipped with either 18-speed or 12-speed pinion gearbox that’s integrated into the frame, ensuring a low central center of gravity for excellent stability, but most importantly, a drive system that’s fully sealed and protected from the elements, promising minimal maintenance.
Additionally, Nicolai has opted for a GATES Carbon Drive system, offering a smooth and quiet transfer of power that further reduces maintenance over a traditional chain.
Other features that highlight the Argon GX Pinion include 140mm flat mount disc brakes that are integrated into the left side of the dropouts, eliminating the need to adjust the caliper when adjusting the dropout, along with internal cable routing and pack mounts and bosses galore, allowing gravel grinders and bikepackers to have a fully-laden voyage.
Regarding geometry, the Argon GX Pinion strikes a balance between sport and comfort thanks to a longer toptube and reach combined with slacker headtube and seattube angles, as well as longer chainstays for optimal stability across all types of terrain.
Nicolai offers a range of customization options for the Argon GX Pinion including two different wheel sizes, either a flat or drop handlebar set-up and the choice of a dropper post, with prices starting at 3,349 euros for a frame only, with full builds starting at 4125 euros.
