“One Ride Away From Figuring It Out” … A Memoir by Tom Ritchey

Legendary framebuilder Tom Ritchey tells his life story in a book for the first time – One Ride Away from Figuring it Out.

A teenage racer and framebuilding prodigy, at barely 22 years old Tom Ritchey defined what the modern mountain bike would be, and, under the watchwords of strength, lightness, and high performance, went on to create a string of innovations in bicycle design.

After more than fifty years, he is a legend in the industry and remains the sole product developer at Ritchey Design, the company he founded at the age of sixteen.

In One Ride Away from Figuring it Out, he’ll share a lifetime of insights and reveal his thoughts on the beginnings of mountain biking and other events that have shaped the bicycle as we know it today.

From riding off-road as a teenager, soaking up the engineering wisdom of Jobst Brandt, to designing and building Ritchey MountainBikes and the heady days of early mountain bike racing; and from the highs and lows of business to a reawakening of purpose and spirit in Rwanda, Tom writes with humility and candor of the hard work and chance that helped him survive. And how he remains optimistic that by learning lessons from the bicycle we can change the world for the better.
