“Out of Office”: Bikepacking Iceland’s Westfjords Way

Set against the stunning backdrop of Iceland’s Westfjords Way, a bikepacking route Chris Burkard helped create three years ago, OUT OF OFFICE follows Burkard as he embarks on the route’s first unsupported individual time trial in the summer of 2024. Blending breathtaking scenery with a reflection on priorities and passions, OUT OF OFFICE is a testament to carving out time for the adventures that fuel the soul and keep creative processes moving.

“You can’t simply close the car door and hide from bad weather.”

Nestled in what’s often referred to as “Europe’s last great wilderness,” Iceland’s Westfjords showcase the true meaning of remoteness.

Originally published in 2021, the 575-mile Westfjords Way takes bikepackers on an unforgettable journey through the region’s dramatic fjords, weaving along winding gravel roads, tackling challenging climbs, and visiting incredible hot springs.

This route delivers a unique blend of ruggedness and serene beauty, offering riders an amazing experience both on and off the bike.
