Pirelli has not only expanded the range of tire sizes in its P Zero Race TLR series, adding 35mm and 40mm, but has also incorporated FSC-certified natural rubber in their construction.
“Made in Pirelli’s Milan-Bollate facility, the FSC certification indicates that the natural rubber used comes from plantations managed to preserve biodiversity and benefit the lives of the local communities and workers. FSC is the most recognized global authority that certifies materials of forest origin. The certification process provides that the material with the FSC logo is managed separately from the non-certified material throughout the entire supply chain. This is why a dedicated monitoring system had to be introduced in the entry and exit points of all materials used in FSC-certified products in the Bollate plant. This plant has been completely renovated and converted for the production of bicycle tires: it is a cutting-edge factory thanks to its highly automated production systems,” explains Pirelli.
As previously reported, working closely with the Trek LiDI WorldTour team, Pirelli was able to further refine its SpeedCORE construction, a patent-pending technology that comprises a thin, airtight layer of rubber compound that’s infused with aramid particles to help bolster the casing structure while slightly reducing weight and improving rolling resistance.
“The new generation of PZERO Race TLR is the most performing tire in our portfolio as well as being the first tire with a tubeless technology entirely made in Italy. The introduction of the new SPEEDCORE technology in the 120tpi casing features the use of a layer of compound mixed with aramid which covers the inner layer of the tire, improving either the smoothness and the resistance of the rubber. Result: a less stiff but faster tire. The compound, on the other hand, maintains the same advanced SmartEVO technology, shared with the other high-performance tires in the PZERO range,” boasts Pirelli.
In addition to less weight and better rolling resistance, Pirelli says the P Zero Race TLR is also more puncture-resistant thanks to its SmartEVO compound, as well as a new bead design that promotes better air retention.
“Still our best chemical formulation for all-around road use, whether it means racing or high intensity and long-distance leisure riding. It is born from the large Motorsport experience of Pirelli and the collaboration with the factory World Tour teams and it features a single-compound formulation based on three different polymers, each of which provides opposite performances in a perfect blend of grip, speed and reliability. The advanced mixture of polymers with ‘smart’ behaviors is the key element of the SmartEVO compound, providing grip in any weather condition and very low rolling resistance in a package made to sustain also high mileage and rougher road surfaces. It is a high-performance chemical formulation developed for modern road cycling, from everyday riding to racing, even at WorldTour level. SpeedCORE is an innovative tubeless-ready construction developed by us (Patent Pending) for our high-performance cycling tires, representing our most advanced TLR technology to date. Derived from Pirelli automotive know-how and made possible by our newest production plant in Italy, near our headquarters in Milan, SpeedCORE construction consists of a thin air-tight layer of rubber compound infused of aramid particles. This layer covers the internal part of the tire and thanks to the presence of the aramid into the rubber blend, it allows for better mechanical resistance, improved air retention and overall greater flexibility: all contributing to the tire’s overall performance,” explains Pirelli.
The P Zero Race TLR is available in sizes 26mm, 28mm, 30mm, 32mm, 35mm and 40mm that sell for $99.90, with all but the 26mm version being hookless compatible.
