Reserve has teamed up with Tune to develop its lightest wheelsets to date, shedding as much as 30 grams across its 34/37, 42/49 and 57/64 versions, relying on the German brand’s exclusive Pico hubs that are laced with straight-pull carbon-bladed spokes to defy gravity.
“Our new line of SL Turbulent Aero wheels deliver the same aero advantage, predictable handling and industry-leading durability as our standard rims. And thanks to new advancements in carbon layup technology, they’re 30 grams lighter per wheel. That’s 60 grams saved per wheelset. These numbers matter when racing is decided by seconds, not minutes. At the heart of Tune SL Wheels are the Tune Pico Hubs. Made in Germany with unmatched precision and care, they were developed exclusively for the riders of team Visma | Lease a Bike. The dedicated hub design and perfect alignment mean that the Vonoa carbon spokes don’t need to bend or twist between the hub and the rim, creating a stiffer, stronger wheel. Our Turbulent Aero technology means all SL rims are designed, tested and validated in real-world conditions. These wheels are made to be fast on open roads, not just in wind-tunnels'” boasts Reserve.
The Pico hubs feature 7075-T aluminum hubs with freehub bodies that can be selected with points and degrees of engagement from 69 to 138 at 5.2 and 2.6 degrees, which weigh in at a feathery 275g per set.
All things considered, Reserve says the lightest variant tips the scales at a svelte 1,140g per pair, while the 42/49 and 57/64 weigh in at 1,290 grams and 1,470 grams, respectively, which sell for $3,499 across all models – complete with Reserve’s Fillmore valves, replacement carbon spokes, rotor lockrings and wheel bags with either an XDR or HG freehub.
