In 2009, State Bicycle Co. ventured into the fixed-gear segment with their original 4130 Fixed-Gear/Single-Speed model.
Since then, tens of thousands of riders have taken to the streets on the 4130, drawn to it by its affordability, durability and classic/timeless styling. After over a decade of manufacturing and 5+ years since major changes, the 4130 Fixed-Gear/Single-Speed got a full overhaul.
Perhaps, the most significant feature of the new 4130 Fixed-Gear /Single-Speed Bikes is its redesigned geometry, employing a wishbone style rear triangle that’s paired with a segmented fork to accommodate generous tire clearance up to 42c, giving the 4130’s stiff chromoly steel frame additional compliance and more comfort on rough roads and trails.
The frame also features mounts on the fork and rear of the frame to accommodate racks/baskets/panniers, making it the perfect bike for work, commuting and adventures.
Additionally, State Bicycle Co. borrowed from its All-Road lineup in order to beef up the wheels on the new 4130 Fixed-Gear /Single-Speed bike, which now features a tubeless-ready wheelset that’s compatible with 700c x 25mm to 700c x42mm tires, laced to a 32-hole sealed bearing flip-flop hub so riders can choose to coast on the freewheel or get “fixie” with the fixed-gear size.
The new wheels are paired with a 700x38c stock tire, the largest a rider will find “stock” on a complete fixed-gear anywhere on the market. The “All-Road” style tread is designed for both paved surfaces and hard-packed gravel with a smooth center, faster rolling on the asphalt and scored side tread for traction when cornering and braking.
“Our riders are using these in the city to commute or even to work (as messengers). They needed something that could handle rain, snow, and potholes. We think these new changes will really help with all of that, PLUS giving these bikes extra versatility to be used off-road,” says State Bicycle Co.’s Mehdi Farsi.
Those familiar with the 4130 line will remember the feature that allowed riders to choose their own handlebars.
Well, the same choice has been carried-over to the new 4130, giving customers a choice between a wide-riser handlebar or the brand’s popular All-Road flared drop handlebar with traditional hoods and levers. Moreover, both handlebars now come in an oversize 31.8mm clamp diameter with stiffer power transfer and for increased compatibility with the top-of-the-line 3rd-party upgrade.
Lastly, the 4130 is offered 4 new colorways that will be sure to turn heads, ranging from subdued to “look-at-me” paint schemes in Matte-Black/Mirror, Matte-Olive, “Alouette” and “Windbreaker”.
