Syncros has launched two new one-piece carbon wheelsets called the Captial SL and Capital SL Aero, targeting gravel cyclists and bikepackers alike.
The Syncros brand has disappeared, only to reappear, a few times over the decades, which now resides as Scott’s in-house wheel brand.
Part of Scott’s larger System of Speed ecosystem of components, the wheelsets are fabricated using a patented Monocoque Wheel System technology (MWS), which spin on DT Swiss 240 EXP hub internals inside a custom hub body specially epoxied in place, resulting in a claimed 20% reduction in rotational inertia compared to traditional carbon wheels.
In addition to reducing weight and unsprung rotational mass, Scott also took aerodynamics into consideration when developing the wheels, which the company says is around 7% more aerodynamic than its previous designs.
Elsewhere, the 40mm and 60 mm deep, Captial SL and Capital SL Aero feature a hookless, U-shaped rim, with internal and external widths of 23mm and 25mm, respectively, allowing for a wide range of tire sizes. Moreover, Scott says the hookless bead provides increased impact protection and reduced pinch-flats, especially for gravel use.
According to Scott, the Capital SL tips the scales at a feathery 1,170 grams, while the Capital SL Aero weighs in at 1,290 grams, which both sell for the same price of $4,200.
