TriRig Launches Omega X Brake

Cyclists looking to “cheat the wind”, will rejoice over TriRig’s latest iteration of its popular Omega brake – called the X.

Since its introduction in 2012, the TriRig Omega has been a popular choice for time trialists and triathletes alike, who are looking for an aero advantage.

The all-new Omega X is a completely updated version, with its greatly reduced frontal profile and centerpull cable routing – to the effect of greater aero performance.

The new Omega X improves on every aspect of its predecessor, with a host of new features to completely redefine the popular Omega platform.

The new X is compatible with more bikes than ever before, thanks to its universal Shimano Direct-Mount and TRP U-Mount adapter. The Omega X retains the great features of  previous Omega, such as wide-rim compatibility and easy pad stance adjustment, while improving every aspect of performance and being even easier to install and adjust.

Overview

Aerodynamics

Newly-shaped magnetic Front Plate fairing

The Omega X now features a Front Plate that is one continuous, smooth surface. There are no grooves, levers, sharp bends, or fasteners to interrupt air flow. Our new magnetic fit system allows the new Front Plate to come on and off with ease, which also makes installation and maintenance much easier and faster. And the strong neodymium rare earth magnets ensure that the Front Plate stays in place, no matter how rough the roads get.

Wind Tunnel Proven

Omega X was developed in the wind tunnel, with several testing rounds from our early prototypes out to final production brakes. Our iterative development allowed us to refine the brake’s design, making it faster with each version. It’s born from the same outer design shape as the original Omega, which has tested faster than side pull brakes, other center pull brakes, and even the Magura RT8 hydraulic brake.

Tiny frontal profile hides from the wind

The Omega X is 64mm wide at its widest point of its pivots, which means it will hide within the frontal profile of virtually every fork on the market. No additional frontal area makes the brake very slippery to the wind. Other brakes stick out well past the head tube, disrupting air flow and robbing you of precious Watts. And the centerpull design means that the brake cable and housing get to hide from the wind as well, leaving nothing exposed beyond the existing frontal profile of your frame.

Light and Powerful
Improved Rollercam and Levers

The Omega’s rollercam Wedge design provides an enormous mechanical advantage for excellent stopping power, smooth action and excellent modulation. With the Omega X, we revised the Wedge to improve stopping power, increase initial “bite” of the brake for better modulation, and provided a “home” position for the Levers which improves the brake return and eases installation/maintenance.

134g Complete

The complete Omega X, including all mounting hardware and pads weighs just 134g. This puts it into ultra-light territory.

Powerful Return Spring

A powerful spring on the rear of the brake returns it to neutral quickly and efficiently. This single fixed spring design reduces size of the brake, and allows us to keep the width narrower than most head tubes.

Extensive Testing

The Omega brakes have passed the world’s most rigorous braking safety tests from CEN and CPSC with flying colors. The Omega performs well in both dry and wet conditions, and has been ridden ridden in every kind of training and racing environment, under some of the world’s strongest professional riders. Now three years after the release of the original Omega, we can proudly say the design has stood the test of time.

User-Friendly
Simplified Installation

The Omega X is even easier to setup and maintain than its predecessor. With the magnetic front plate, access to the brake’s internals is literally a snap away. The newly-shaped Wedge provides a ‘home position’ for the brake’s Levers, making installation more straightforward and foolproof. And with independent pad position adjustment, it’s easier than ever to set your brake and adjust as needed. Everywhere on the brake, we took care to make sure the details were done right. For example, every fastener on the brake is stainless steel for better corrosion resistance. The underside of the Omega’s Front Plate forms a complete cover for the underside, helping to improve airflow and help keep the brake’s interior clean. Even the Wedge shape was redesigned to complete the top of the brake’s arc, to form a single smooth shape.

Independent Pad Adjustment

There is a set screw on each side that controls how far the pad is from the brake track. If you switch to a wider rim, just move the pads outward – no need to recable the brake, open a quick release, or do anything else to compromise the performance and aerodynamics of the brake. If your brake pad has worn down, just move the pads inward. It is very quick and the most precise way to achieve optimal brake pad position. And because the pad stance is independently adjustable on each side, you can easily accommodate an out-of-true wheel or an off-centered brake mount.

Compatibility and Fit
Multiple Standards Supported

The Omega X is compatible with a traditional single-post mount, Shimano direct-mount, and TRP U-brake direct mount standards. This allows it to work with virtually any tri bike on the market! All fasteners and adapters necessary are included, so no matter what kind of shape your frame is in, you’ll be able to mount the Omega X. See the Compatibility Page for details.

Works with any rim, front or rear

Nowadays, wide rims are becoming more and more popular. They offer increased stability and comfort, and have little downside. A lot of brakes on the market aren’t compatible with wide rims as the brakes can’t open wide enough. The Omega X, however, opens to 32mm at the top of the brake track, making it compatible with EVERY RIM on the market. It can also close down to work just fine with traditional narrow 19mm rims. So you can be sure the Omega X will work no matter what wheels you run. And you don’t have to modify your brake pads, because the Omega can open to 32mm when using full-size, 6mm-tall pads.

Full Clearance Envelope

A lot of new tri bikes use a Shimano Direct-Mount rear brake. One disadvantage of this design is that the sidepull brake protrudes towards the crank arm, possibly limiting compatibility with certain crank-based power meters and accessories. The Omega X preserves the full clearance envelope, eliminating compatibility issues.

CNC Precision

New for the Omega X, nearly every component of the brake is individually CNC machined out of aircraft-grade T6 aluminum. We’ve tightened up the tolerances, ensuring every brake fits together like a fine watch. The Omega X is a true piece of precision gear.
