Uno-X’s Magnus Cort claimed stage 2 of the Volta a Catalunya today, after the Danish rider held off Noah Isidore (Decathlon-CMA CGM) in the final sprint. Meanwhile, the peloton had reeled in the lone breakaway survivor of the day, Liam Slock (Lotto-Intermarché), with 1 kilometer to go.

Today’s victory moved Cort into the second place in the general classification, level on time with stage 1 winner Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers), who finished fourth.

In the meantime, Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) grabbed the final spot on the podium after finishing third, while Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5) came in six-seconds later in fourth.

Earlier, a small breakaway group containing Baptiste Veistroffer, Slock (both Lotto – Intermarché), Samuel Fernandéz, Diego Uriairte and Julen Ariolabengoa managed to escape the peloton, with the quintet later opening up a modest advantage over the chase.

As the escapees reached the only moderate climbs of the day, Veistroffer and Slock decided to jettison their fellow breakaway companions with 19 kilometers to go.

Slock later found himself alone during the last 3 kilometers, before being reeled in with just over a kilometer remaining.
