Indeed, the world champion crossed the finish line almost half a minute over his closest rival.
Nys started out behind most of the big names in today’s race. However, after battling his way up through the field, by the time the Belgian rider had reached the half way point in the race, he was off on his own and never seen again by the main field.
Once out in front, Nys opened a substantial gap and subsequently cruised to victory during the final three laps of the race.
Today marked his fifth victory in the Jaarmarktcross event – after winning the race in 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Wout Van Aert , Rob Peeters finished in second and third, with Niels Albert finishing way down in seventh position after a late fall.
The next races in the Soudal series are the Scheldecross Antwerpen on December 7th, Classic Namur-World Cup on December 22nd and Cyclocross Leuven on January 19th.
