2014 Basso Diamante '014 Road Bike

We salivated when we saw Basso’s new Diamante 014 at EuroBike and InterBike last Fall.

This week, the venerable Italian brand launched a new MLP Team Bergstrasse limited edition.

Overview

Diamante

The DIAMANTE ‘014 brings an even greater rigidity sure to please the most powerful sprinters while reducing weight!

The new DIAMANTE ‘014 weight savings (53cm frame weight is 830 grams before paint) has been obtained by focusing on:

– creating a monocoque without utilizing any aluminium reinforcement parts
– re-positioning the carbon fibers in the critical steering and bottom bracket areas providing a 15g weight reduction in the steering and 25g weight reduction in the bottom bracket.

The DIAMANTE ‘014 utilizes Toray M60 High Modulus carbon fiber pre-preg. Toray M60 is highly respected for its light weight and high rigidity characteristics. A widely used fiber in the automotive and aviation industries our Toray M60 is made even more resistant to impacts and stress over long distances through our use of specific proprietary resins.

The new "monolithic" front frame section, made by the semi-integrate front fork / frame / stem / headset, provides a more aerodynamic and aggressive position, ideal for ProRacers and for those who require a less "stretched" more raised position, a conical shaped spacer is available. The conical shaped spacers rest on the base of the headset and effectively raise the stem without losing the linearity of the headtube form.

Additionally, a new upper fork shape has been developed to virtually stretch into the lower part of the frame allowing the steering stresses to be discharged over a wider surface and thereby facilitating manoeuvrability in challenging curves.

The two digit numbers incorporated in the new DIAMANTE ‘014 graphics have been chosen specifically to reference two absolutely unique specifications; these are the 04 in the bottom bracket area and the 06 in the steering area. These numbers represent the displacement, measured in mm as detected by our computer while testing the bending and torsion frame qualities. The test utilizes a weight of 50kg applied at 36 cm from the fulcrum and measures a return to the initial state, 00 mm offset, which occurs immediately on release of the weight. The new DIAMANTE ‘014 measurements are by far the best results found by comparison with other frames of the highest range on the market. No other manufacturer can boast such strength characteristics, combined with the reduced weight.

The racing essence of the diamante is expressed in the contrast between its slim forms and aerodynamic shapes, and its inner strong structure which has proved to transform the brusting energy of your pedalling into ground speed. No flex or tortion are the hidden qualities of this rocket fast machine.
