Amy Pieters won stage 2 of the 2014 Ladies Tour of Qatar with a well timed attack in the closing few hundred meters of today’s race – ending in Madinat Al Shamal.
The Dutch rider beat out Anna Van Der Breggen and Charlotte Becker, with Inga Cilvinaite finishing in fourth.
The quartet attacked in the closing kilometers of the race – ultimately building up a gap of almost a minute over the peloton in the remaining 6 kilometers.
Cilvinaite lead the group into the final straight, however, Pieters attacked in the final 300 meters – leaving her breakaway companions behind. With bonus seconds for her win, Pieters did enough to wrest the leader’s jersey from teammate Kirsten Wild in the overall classification.
