2014 Tour de Perth Stage 2

Tim Roe beat fellow Australian Travis Meyer to claim Stage 2 of the 2014 Woodside Tour de Perth today.

Riding with team Budget Forklifts, Roe held off Meyer to win the 116 kilometer race by 22 seconds.

Despite his hometown advantage of knowing the local circuit, Meyer was unable to overtake Roe in the final stages of the race.

Roe said he was thrilled to have claimed the victory with a time of 2hr 58min 45s.

“I’m really happy with today,” he said.

“The plan was to try to do a really good ride and everything went to plan, so I’m very pleased.”

Roe, who made his move with 2 kilometers remaining in the stage,  said he had been wary of the threat posed by Drapac rider Meyer.

“Trav’s really classy so I was definitely aware of that,” he said.

“When I saw him go, I knew it was time to go.”

The third stage of the Woodside Tour de Perth will take riders on a 20 kilometer time trial around Rottnest Island tomorrow.
