Michal Kwiatkowski won the opening prologue of this year’s Tour de Romandie with the fastest finish in today’s Individual Time Trial event.
The Polish rider set the best time of 6:22 along the hilly course, which proved to be enough to hold off challenges from riders such as Rohan Dennis and Marcel Kittel who demonstrated their TT skills with second and third place finishes.
Meanwhile, World champion time trialist Tony Martin could only muster a fifth place finish in today’s race against the clock. In addition, last year’s winner Chris Froome finished in thirteenth spot, 9 seconds behind Kwiatkowski’s time, while his teammate, Richie Porte, put in a much slower performance – finishing more than 20 seconds behind.
Unfortunately for the American rider Tejay van Garderen, he crashed during his ride, and subsequently lost close to three minutes.
