Michael Albasini claimed his third stage victory in this year’s Tour de Romandie, by beating Thomas Voekcler and Jan Bakelants in a sprint finish with one of his signature accelerations – at the end of today’s 174 kilometer stage in Fribourg.
Meanwhile, Simon Spilak finished safely in the peloton, to hold onto his overall lead with a one-second advantage over Chris Froome.
However, the British time trial expert is expected to wrest the leader’s jersey, along with the overall race title, from the Slovenian rider during tomorrow’s final 18.5 kilometer time trial stage in Neuchatel.
