CatEye Launches Strada Smart Computer

CatEye is launching a new computer called the Strada Smart – that’s capable of linking a smartphone and displaying GPS-derived data on the unit’s screen display. In addition, the Strada Smart can be used without a smartphone – linking it to a speed/cadence sensor.

The new computer uses Bluetooth Smart to communicate with smartphones such as the Apple iPhone 4S and onwards, and with Android 4.3 and so on. This means, the data comes directly from GPS data via the smartphone, and then it’s relayed to the Strada computer.

CatEye’s decision to do it this way was simple. Harness the powerful technology behind the smartphone, and create a free app that will allow the Strada head unit to simply mirror the smartphone’s information.

Once paired with a smartphone, the Strada Smart can display speed, mileage, time and altitude data. In turn, the ride data is stored on your phone for later use. The Strada Smart will also display phone and messaging icons as well.

The Strada Smart head unit features all of the standard functions of the Strada range, along with a a display that is customizable. Navigation is simple; whereby one button is used to scrolls through three different pages of data.

Sending the data from the App on your phone to websites like CateyeAtlas, Strava and Training Peaks is easy too – with one touch of a button.

The Strada Smart is expected to be available in April.

Overview

All of the power of your smartphone in full view on your cycle computer.

The Bluetooth enabled Strada Smart connects with your smartphone through the CatEye Cycling App. The Strada Smart is mounted on your handlebar or stem, while the smartphone is stashed out of harms way in a pocket or saddle bag.

In Mirror Mode, the App records ride data and transmits a copy to the Strada Smart. Phone call and email alert icons are also displayed. The phone is kept in sleep mode, preserving the battery.

When smartphone use is not an option, Sensor Direct mode can be used as a back up. Sensor Direct mode syncs the Strada Smart directly with traditional Speed, Cadence, Heart Rate and Power sensors, so important ride data is always available.

Post ride, the data is easily uploaded from the App to training sites.

Comes with Speed/Cadence sensor and HR sensor strap.
