ENVE Launches New Smart Aero Bar System

Last summer we caught a glimpse of ENVE’s prototype SMART aero bar system at the 2013 EuroBike Show. And, after much anticipation, the Utah based composites company officially launched it’s new product today.

According to ENVE CEO Sarah Lehman,“When ENVE partnered with Simon Smart the goal was to bring world class aerodynamics to ENVE’s already outstanding product.  From the beginning, we knew that the collaboration would extend beyond wheels and the new Smart ENVE System Aero Bar is the first of several aero components.” So the aerobars are first, but they apparently won’t be the last…

The new bar feature a 31.8 bar clamp diameter, which makes them compatible with virtually every bike  on the market. Moreover, due to their wide range of adjustability – they’re compatible a majority of riders as well.

“Over the years I have worked with many athletes of all calibers to help them obtain their optimized aero position.  It is not uncommon to find that most of these athletes use an aero bar that is either highly aerodynamic or highly adjustable, but rare that the bar accomplishes both. The new SES Aero Bar is unique in that it is arguably the most aerodynamic bar on the market with unprecedented adjustability, ” claims Simon Smart.

Key Features:

  • 31.8 clamp size
  • Virtually infinite fit and adjustability options
  • 2 in 1 aero extensions that can be cut from standard S-bend to J-bend
  • Arm rests and extensions may be height adjusted up to 75mm off the base bar
  • Arm rests may be mounted direct to base bar
  • Max arm rest height of 75mm
  • Extensions elevation angle may be adjusted via twin bolt design
  • Internal cable/wire housing

Technical Specs:

  • Weight: 650 – 825 g
  • Base Bar Width (c to c): 40cm
  • Base Bar Drop: ± 21mm
  • Clamp: 31.8
  • Extensions: J-bend, S-bend (2 in 1)
  • Extensions Angle Adjust: 0-15 deg
  • Height Adjust Spacers: 5mm, 10mm, and 20mm
  • Arm Rest/Extension Width: 86mm (narrow), 173 mm (wide)
  • Pad width center to center: Min. 125mm – Max. 200mm
  • Stack Height of Arm Rest/Extension: 15mm / 90mm

Press Release from ENVE:

November 1, 2013 – Ogden, UT, USA – ENVE is pleased to announce that the Smart ENVE System (SES) Aero Bar is now shipping.  The first component in the SES lineup, the SES Aero Bar was specifically developed for the aftermarket and allows unprecedented adjustability without compromising top level aerodynamics.

“When ENVE partnered with Simon Smart the goal was to bring world class aerodynamics to ENVE’s already outstanding product.  From the beginning, we knew that the collaboration would extend beyond wheels and the new Smart ENVE System Aero Bar is the first of several aero components,” commented ENVE CEO Sarah Lehman.

The SES Aero Bar follows ENVE’s function first philosophy.  First, the part must be compatible with a majority of the frames on the market.  For this reason the SES Aero Bar features a standard 31.8 clamp allowing it to be used on virtually any modern triathlon or time trial bike.  Second, it must be compatible with as many riders as possible.  With this in mind, Smart and ENVE set out to create an aero handlebar system that was not only aerodynamic, but also extremely adjustable so that virtually any rider can obtain their optimized position.

“Over the years I have worked with many athletes of all calibers to help them obtain their optimized aero position.  It is not uncommon to find that most of these athletes use an aero bar that is either highly aerodynamic or highly adjustable, but rare that the bar accomplishes both. The new SES Aero Bar is unique in that it is arguably the most aerodynamic bar on the market with unprecedented adjustability, ”stated Aerodynamicist Simon Smart.

The SES Aero Bar features a reversible base bar, micro angle adjust extensions, reversible extension towers with multiple width options, 2 in 1 extension, and pad carriers capable of multiple configurations to fine tune arm rest position.  As with all ENVE products, the SES Aero Bar is light weight, and carries the standard 5-Year Warranty and Lifetime Crash Replacement.
