Giro d’Italia 2014 Stage 10

Nacer Bouhanni claimed stage 10 in this year’s Giro d’Italia today, after beating Giacomo Nizzolo and Michael Matthews in a sprint finish.

Meanwhile, a significant crash took place just before the finish of the stage – claiming several riders. Fortunately for today’s winner, the French rider was part of a small lead group that was ahead of the crash, and therefore was unaffected by the catastrophe.

The Finale

In the closing kilometer of today’s 184 kilometer stage from Modena to Salsomaggiore, the race appeared to be wide-open. However, as the road turned right in the closing few hundred meters, Tyler Farrar, who was part of a sizable group of riders at mid-pack, became entangled with another rider, and went down hard. This left the remaining riders with nowhere to go – subsequently causing a pile up  – just short of the finish.

Following today’s stage, Cadel Evans still remains in the overall leader’s position.

The Giro continues tomorrow with a 249 kilometer route from Correggio to Savona.
