Schwinn Paramount Road Bike Returns

The American bike icon, Schwinn, announced that it’s launching a limited edition Paramount road bike. As expected, these limited edition bikes will be manufactured in Waterford, Wisconsin, and will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Paramount. Schwinn has called upon Paramount expert Marc Muller, who ran the Schwinn Paramount engineering department in the 1980s, and Richard Schwinn, the great grandson of Schwinn founder Ignaz Schwinn, to create this anniversary model.

Each of the 25 available steel frames are customizable, complete with limited-edition 75th anniversary lugs, options for internal and Di2 routing, and  decaling and paint options that let the rider capture the essence of the classic bike. The Paramount will be available in three frame level options: the Paramount Air, Paramount front/stainless rear, and Paramount full stainless.

Those lucky enough to purchase one of the 25 frames, will be invited to visit the Waterford factory, for a custom fitting.

“Schwinn and Paramount have been synonymous for so long, and we’re happy to have them back together for this special collaboration,” said Jeff Rogers, Global General Manager at Schwinn. “We asked Richard Schwinn if he and his team would be willing to collaborate with us to create a 75th anniversary Schwinn Paramount, and he answered with a resounding ‘yes,’ illustrating the passion this project has had from the outset.”

“The 75th anniversary design lets us offer 21st century technology while paying homage to the Paramount’s glorious past,” said Schwinn. “We feel honored to be able to celebrate another milestone in the Paramount’s legendary history and to once again be building Schwinn bicycles.”

From Schwinn

The 75th Anniversary Paramount is a custom road bike with a wide range of options – all constructed using a limited edition Paramount lugset specially designed for this project.

The lugset is constructed of stainless steel and is individually crafted for each order.  The styling pays tribute to Marc Muller’s groundbreaking OS lugset design of the 1980′s with side points and long top points.  Cleaner than the ornate 1970′s Nervex lugs, it also includes the Paramount compass points on the top.

Prototype Lower Head Lug.

By hand-crafting each lug, each bike will fit the rider’s individual needs.

After fabrication, the head lugs and seat lugs are polished to a mirror finish.

Paramounts are offered in three configurations:

Air – all fully heat treated air-hardening steel, featuring Waterford’s proprietary palette of custom tubes.

Air/Stainless Rear – air hardening main tubes with stainless steel chainstays and seatstays.

Stainless – stainless steel throughout.

All frames are made to measure. We allow for a wide range of design flexibility, not just for sizing but for wheel choice and braze-on options.

Finish – the full Waterford color palette is available. In addition, we offer three optional theme colors:

  • Candy Red – the iconic color of the 1980′s.
  • Pearl White – Add a glow to your finish.
  • Coppertone – a nod to a classic shade of the Paramount’s Classic Days.

Every frame receives the classic Paramount headbadge and is numbered in the series – X of 25.

The 75th draws from a number of era, yet with a 21st century twist. The basic look borrows heavily from the classic 60′s Paramounts, with the seat tube panel bordered by Paramount’s well-earned World championship stripes. The downtube font is shown in our page header. It’s a somewhat updated look that keeps the spirit of the classic era:

The downtube decals are available in three classic colors: White, Red and Black.
