Shimano Issues Disc Brake Recall

Shimano is voluntarily recalling its mechanical disc brake calipers for road bikes sold after February last year.

The affected models are the BR-CX75, BR-R515 and BR-R315. The BR-R315 was not sold in North America. Shimano American is not saying much about the specifics of the recall until it announces it jointly with the CPSC, but the recall is underway in Europe and Shimano American will replace the affected calipers with improved models.

The model numbers of affected brakes can be found behind the arm as shown in the photo below. Replacement brakes that do not include the defect can be identified by a white circle on the caliper body as shown in the second photo below.

Consumers should stop using bicycles with the recalled brake calipers and bring them to a Shimano authorized retailer for a free inspection and installation of replacement calipers.

For further information, call Shimano American at 1-800-353-4719, Monday through Friday 8 am – 5pm PDT. In Canada, call Shimano Canada LTD at 1-877-377-5211, Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm EDT.
