UCI Announces 31 Women's Teams for 2014



The UCI has announced the it’s list of 31 professional women’s teams registered for the 2014 season. 

Four teams topped the rankings with the Rabo Liv team being first, followed by the Orica-AIS in second. Boels Dolmans, was third, while American squad Specialized-Lululemon was fourth.

The top national teams were the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, the USA and Australia.

The total number of women’s teams was down by three this year, as a result of nine teams either disbanding or consolidating with others. In the case of the Exergy team, they stepped back to the non-UCI ranks.

This year, UCI saw the addition of the American UnitedHealthcare team added to the ranks.

A first provisional team ranking was established on January 10th, taking into account the individual UCI points of the four best athletes from each team, as well as the UCI points won at the 2013 Road World Championships team time trial.

On the basis of this ranking, the best teams will automatically be invited to participate in the major events on the calendar, in line with articles 2.1.007bis and 2.14.004 of the UCI Regulations:

  • the top 20 teams of the “provisional ranking” will automatically be invited to participate in the UCI Women Road World Cup events.
  •  the top 10 teams of the “provisional ranking” will automatically be invited to participate in Class 1 events.

Moreover, the top five nations of the 2013 UCI nation’s ranking will automatically be invited to participate in Class 1 events in 2014. These nations are the following: the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, the United States, and Australia.
