A belated happy birthday to Ángel Arroyo, who was born on August 2, 1956.
The Spanish rider is best known for finishing 2nd in the 1983 Tour de France behind Laurent Fignon of France.
However, prior to his podium finish in the 1983 Tour de France, the Spanish rider was caught up in controversy, when he tested positive for Methylphenidate during stage 17 of the 1982 Vuelta a España – while leading the race.
As result, Arroyo received a 10 minute time penalty from race officials, which effectively stripped him of his victory, after he has relegated to 13th place.
Aside from that stain on his career, Arroyo won a few stage victories in the Tour de France and Vuelta over the years, to include several lesser known races throughout Europe.
Feliz compleaños Ángel !
