Basso is targeting cyclists who prefer taking the road less traveled, but with some needed boost, with the launch of its new Volta carbon gravel eBike.
Drawing upon the Italian brand’s Palta II gravel bike, the Volta features a very similar geometry, albeit with the addition of a powerful Polini E-P3+ mid-drive motor that puts out 250W with 75Nm of torque, powered by a 500Wh battery that tucks neatly into the oversized downtube. Moreover, Basso says the claimed range of 136 miles (220 kilometers), can be extended further courtesy of an external 250Wh battery that can be housed in the frame’s seat tube bottle carrier. Forego prolonged pedal assistance, and the Volta can go even further.
Elsewhere, the Volta’s system is managed via a Polini 2.5″ TFT display, while tech amenities such as fully integrated cable routing, a semi-aero seatpost, flat mount disc brakes and 12mm thru-axles further punctuate the Volta.
Clearance and cargo carrying were also key considerations when developing the Volta, which can accommodate tires up to a hefty 45mm, while mounts galore enable a toptube bag, two bottle cages, front and rear racks, full-coverage fenders and even dynamo routing.
The new Basso Volta comes in four sizes (S-XL), with two different build options, a SRAM Apex 1×11 44T and 11-42T equipped model for 6000€ and the more premium variant that’s fitted with a SRAM Rival AXS 2×12 groupset with 48/35T chainrings and a 10-36T cassette for 6600€, while both bikes come shod with tubeless-ready Microtech MX25 alloy wheels and 40mm Maxxis Receptor semi-slick gravel tires.
