Bikepacking the Veneto Trail

words by Joachim Rosenlund, photos by Andy Cox, video by Bombtrack Bikes

Over the last couple of years, it has become a tradition for the Bombtrack Bikes crew to meet up for the better part of a week to connect and ride together. In 2021, the crew rode the Veneto Trail in Italy and feel in love with this mesmerizing on diverse route. If you love a record, why not play it twice? So, in 2022, the crew met up again to enjoy Italian trails, roads, and breathtaking mountain views, all fueled by fabulous pizza, plenty of espresso, and delectable tiramisu. There may have been some basking in the sun at the local piazza with an Aperol spritz in hand, too.

The Veneto Trail starts in the medieval town of Cittadella and leads riders towards the mountains on smooth gravel roads across fertile wine country. Soon enough, it hit the first mountain, taking you across the mighty and legendary Monte Grappa. From here on, it’s one big mountain pass after the other, reaching its apex at Forcella Ambrizzola, with scenery so heavenly it’s hard to believe the gods of old don’t live there.

Because of all this, we were not there to race, but to take in the landscape and make sure we have enough time to enjoy the fantastic cuisine the region has to offer. So we rode fast but added long stops filled with ice cream, espresso, and laughter. And sometimes naps too. After five days, we arrived back in Cittadella, dirty and smelly, but filled with life (and too much food).
