First spotted being ridden under the auspices of world class riders Marianne Vos and Wout van Aert last season, Cervélo has finally unveiled its latest cyclocross bike called the R5-CX, offering the rest of the cycling masses a pure CX frame that tips the scales at a feathery 850g.
The stand-out features that punctuate the new R5-CX include a threaded T47 bottom bracket for ease of servicing and greater durability, full cable and hose integration and a D-shaped carbon seatpost that will always stay in place – regardless of the rigors of the course.
One caveat though, the frame is only compatible with electronic shifting. But, it will work with both 1x and 2x drivetrains.
The R5-CX is available in four sizes and two colorways, Frost White or Five Black for a hefty $5,500.
Cervélo says it has plans to offer a zanier Purple Moon Drop camouflage paint scheme later on.
For CX’ers who are looking for a complete bike, Cervélo offers the R5-CX in two guises, a Force eTap AXS equipped bike for $9,000, or the top-tier model that’s fitted with a SRAM Red eTap AXS groupset for $13,000, while both bikes include a power meter and Reserve 44 tubeless carbon wheelset.
However, Cervélo indicates that customers might have to wait until spring 2023 for a complete bike.
