Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) claimed stage 4 of the Critérium du Dauphiné in Belley, France today, which may very well have been the last opportunity for the sprinters to seize a victory, before the race revisits the mountains for the final three stages.
The Finale
Despite being boxed in during the last kilometer, the Norwegian rider managed to come around the final right-hand corner and outspent Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) during the closing 100 meters to earn his sixth victory of the season, while Etixx – Quick-Step’s Julian Alaphilippe crossed the line slightly behind the two leaders to round out the podium in third spot.
Meanwhile, Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) finished safely in the peloton, to maintain his grip on the overall lead, with Chris Froome (Team Sky) now just four seconds behind, while Ritchie Porte slipped into third place a further 2 seconds behind the British rider.
