Does Shimano Have Plans to Offer a 105 Mechanical Groupset?

For those who have been mourning the loss of Shimano’s 105 mechanical groupset, your prayers might get answered after all, as spurious images of the popular shift-by-wire drivetrain recently surfaced on the KHS bike website.

Indeed, KHS posted scant images of what appear to be new Shimano 105 ST-R7120 mechanical shifters, as well as the latest 105 FD R7100 front and rear derailleurs, fitted to its 2024 Flite 700 road bike. Moreover, the brand also references a 12-speed in its listed of components.

Interestingly, the “spec sheet” also showed a non-series Shimano FC-RS520 compact crankset that’s designed to work with 12-speed drivetrains

Curiously however, the Flite 700 has since been removed from KHS’ website.

Could these simply have been typos, or misinformation on KHS’ website?

Perhaps, but the previously unreleased model designation “ST-R7120”, suggests otherwise.
