Firefly Offers Globetrotters 17-Pound MiniVelo Folding Titanium Bike

Globetrotters will rejoice over the news that Firefly now offers the perfect solution to their bike traveling woes, a 17-pound folding titanium bike the Boston-based brand has aptly dubbed the MiniVelo – complete with a Rimowa suitcase.

Featuring a custom titanium frame, fork and seatpost, the MiniVelo can be separated into two pieces via connectors in the top tube and down tube, while the wheels and other components can be removed and stored in foam padding, allowing the whole bike to fit nicely inside the suitcase.

The MiniVelo rolls on SMC Govan 406-TW3 carbon fiber wheels with ceramic hubs shod with Michelin Pilot SX Slick 20 x 1.7-inch tires, while power gets delivered via a 56-tooth Alugear Round chainring, 170-mm eeWings Allroad cranks, Crankbrothers Eggbeater 3 pedals and a Chris King T47 bottom bracket, with all of those bits and bobs relying on a SRAM Red AXS groupset to set things in motion.

Elsewhere, the MiniVelo is treated to a titanium headset, a Blacksheep bar/stem and a Specialized Power Pro with Mirror 3D-printed saddle, with stopping power provided by internally-routed Hope RX4+ brakes and Carbon-Ti SteelCarbon rotors. Also, a coupler in the rear brake hose allows the two halves of the bicycle to be separated without losing any fluid.

Initially designed for Malaysian horologist Ming Thein, the globe trekker wanted a bike that could fit inside his Rimowa suitcase, allowing him to transverse the globe with a portable transport that was literally at his fingertips.

“He wanted a bike that he could pack in his Rimowa case and that would ride as much like a normal road bike as possible, in terms of gearing and handling feel, and he was thrilled with how it came out,” Firefly director of operations Kevin Wolfson tells us. “We don’t currently have any on order, but we’d love to build them for more riders.”
