Fulcrum Launches Speed 55 DB Tubeless Wheelset

Fulcrum has launched its latest, tubeless-ready, disc brake specific wheelset called the Speed 55 DB, featuring a new rim design that the Italian brand claims is “a further step forwards in the search for the best aerodynamic performance.”

Fulcrum says its new carbon rim bed eliminates the need for spoke holes in the channel, a move they say results in “a stronger and sturdier construction capable of withstanding even the most extreme racing conditions”. This also does away with the need for rim tape, shaving even more weight off the wheelset.

The new Speed 55 DB also features Fulcrum’s 2-Way Fit technology, allowing the wheelset to be set-up with either clincher or tubeless tires. Moreover, the rim’s wide 19mm internal width allows for a range of tire size from 23mm to a whopping 40mm.

Additionally, the hubs for the Speed 55 DB wheelset feature oversized aluminum flanges and a carbon shell up front, 21 straight-pull, stainless steel spokes in a 2x configuration on one side and 14 on the other, along with 12-mm alloy thru-axles, centerlock (AFS) disc brake interface and USB ceramic bearings with adjustable pre-load.

The 1580g Speed 55 DB wheelset is available with either a Shimano or Campagnolo freehub body for $2498.00, with the option for SRAM’s XDR driver at an additional cost of $11.00.
