Onlookers at the start of today’s Tirreno-Adriatico were stunned at the sight of Giro’s new far-flung Aerohead 2.0 time trial helmet that was debuted by the Visma-Lease a Bike team, featuring an enormous front visor with massive sides and tail section, looking like something plucked from a retro SciFi novel.
Although Giro hasn’t provided any specifics on the new Aerohead 2.0, given the wild lid’s pronounced visor and radical shape suggests that it’s all about improving the rider’s field of view while cheating the wind.
While the Aerohead 2.0 may be seen as some kind of a lab experiment, eschewing any previous norms thought to be practical for a time trial helmet, Visma-Lease A Bike is known for testing every piece of equipment the Dutch squad uses, especially its captain, Jonas Vingegaard, who needless to say wouldn’t be donning it unless he was sure of its aero credentials.
Still, it gets a yikes!
