Kevin Pauwels and Sanne Cant won the men’s and women’s Jaarmarktcross in Niel, Belgium yesterday.

Yesterday’s victory marked Pauwels second consecutive race win this week, after triumphing in the third round of the Superprestige series in Ruddervoorde on Sunday.

Pauwels finished 27 seconds ahead of a resurgent Tom Meeusen (Telenet-Fidea), with Sven Nys (Crelan-AA Drink) third after taking a tumble and making several errors on the technical parts of the course.

“I saw Sven make a mistake and that’s when I got through to the front,” Pauwels explained. “It was a long start on the road and I messed up a little bit. Then I lost a number of places on the technical sections and I was forced to chase. At the beginning of the race it didn’t work out so good. Then suddenly I saw that Sven had made a mistake in the sand. I pulled through, got a gap and from then it was about keeping going.”

Meanwhile, Sanne Cant continued her dominating style, to claim another solo victory ahead of Nikki Harris (Young Telnet-Fidea) and Jolien Verschueren (Young Telenet Fidea).

The Belgian rider capitalized on her rivals mistakes later in the race, subsequently riding clear and on to a solo victory.

It really is going well at the present, but I’m not in absolute top condition yet,” Can’t warned after her victory. “It’s hard to explain but I just feel like I can go even faster. I won today by riding at my own pace and so avoided a battle on the technical sections.”
