Kamingo Can Convert Any Bike into an eBike

Kamingo’s new compact drive system can convert any bike into an eBike, providing up to 750w of boost that requires only minutes to initially install.

Currently the subject of a crowd-funding campaign, Kamingo’s system is comprised of only three components, a handlebar-mounted controller, a battery that fits into a standard water bottle cage and a rear wheel motor that easily mounts via a quick-lock base, providing three modes of assistance, Standby, for no assistance, Assist, for “adaptive” pedal support and Cruise for throttle only powered assistance.

Once the system is installed, all the rider has to do is simply engage the barrel-style drive unit against the rear tire. From there, assistance is provided via Kamingo’s PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) that’s powered by an FOC (Field-Oriented Control) algorithm and a torque-boosting gear-reduction management, delivering up to 40 N·m of torque that can achieve speeds up to 20mph (32 km/h). Moreover, the system also uses Kamingo’s Pressure-Adaptive Technology (PAT) to automatically adjusts the contact pressure between the drive unit and the tire, ensuring smooth, consistent performance across different types of terrain and rider input.

Additionally, the battery features magnetic fast-charging, which can provide up to 18 miles of travel (30km) depending on the terrain and mode of assistance thanks to its 16 high-density 21700 cells (266Wh).

Kamingo is currently offering its system for $389 to early-backers, a $249 savings over its planned MRSP of $589.00.
