New Vision Metron 45 and 60 SL wheelsets were spotted at the Tour de France this week, being ridden under the auspices of the EF Education First-Nippo & Bahrain-Victorious WorldTour teams.
Not surprisingly, the wheelsets are disc brake only. But, they’re available in both clincher/tubeless-ready and tubular versions, with the Metron 45 SL Disc aimed at a mix of hilly and rolling tarmac, while the Metron 60 SL Disc is designed for mostly flat routes.
Vision has increased the internal channel of the wheelsets to 21mm, optimizing them for a 28mm tires, while compliance has been improved and weight reduced thanks to “space-derived” foam that’s been added between the layers of carbon.
The external profile of the rims have also been reshaped, lowering the wheelset’s aerodynamic signature and crosswind stability by a claimed 15-21%.
Additionally, the wheelsets are equipped Vision’s new PRS technology hubs, which feature a 72-tooth engagement system for greater smoothness and a better gear angle, along with 12mm thru-axles and a Centerlock system with an adapter for 6-Bolt configurations. Tool-free QR with 15mm front end caps are also available.
However, the hubs are only compatible with Shimano 11 and 12 speed freehubs, or SRAM XDR. Sorry, there’s no Campagnolo option at this time.
Regarding spokes, both wheelsets are fitted with aero-bladed, double-butted, stainless steel, laced in a 2:1 pattern with 21 spokes up front and 24 spokes at the rear.
The Metron 45 SL Disc tubeless clincher and Metron 45 SL Disc tubular wheelsets sell for 2006€, while the Metron 60 SL Disc tubeless clinchers and Metron 60 SL Disc tubular wheelsets cost 2058€.
All models come lifetime warranty for the original buyer from Vision.
