The legendary design house of Pininfarina, unveiled its futuristic Evoluzione electric bike during last month’s annual Eurobike show.
The Evoluzione is the collaboration between the Italian design firm and Netherlands-based bicycle builder, Diavelo, which features a seamlessly integrated motor, handlebar and stem, cables, lighting, and proprietary 36-volt battery (removable for recharge) in pure Pininfarina fashion.
The optically balanced, fully functional Evoluzione is not only a visual masterpiece, but it’s very lightweight compared to other electric bikes as well.
This is largely due to its prodigious use of carbon fiber throughout the entire bike (i.e. frame, handlebar, seat post, and wheels).
According to Pininfarina, the responsive ride experience is the result of the bike’s aerodynamic body style (based on wind-tunnel testing), combined with top-end Shimano components, a belt-drive transmission and hydraulic disc brakes.
Additionally, there’s an onboard computer that’s built into the Evoluzione’s top-tube, which is capable of providing full metrics regarding GPS and performance data.
With an estimated price of around $5,600, the Evoluzione will be available in three models, Elegance, Hi-Tech, and Dynamic—all motoring to market by next May.

The first Pininfarina electric bike: sporty character and ecofriendly soul. Total integration of the parts: battery, mid- engine, handlebar, lighting system. State of the art technology by Diavelo a member of the Accell Group.
An electric bike able to make a real evolution. In design. In technology. In performance. In comfort. Evoluzione is the first electric bike born from the collaboration between Pininfarina and Diavelo a member of the Accell Group.
The partnership combines the long Pininfarina heritage in designing sporty cars and the vocation to research eco-friendly solutions with Diavelo a member of the Accell Group state-of-the-art technology in the bicycle sector.Evoluzione is innovative from several standpoints. The key word of the project is integration.
Developed from a holistic design philosophy, all the main parts are perfectly integrated in the bike: the battery (patented technology), the mid-engine, the handlebar and stem, the cockpit, all the cables, the lighting system. The advantage of a high level of integration of all components is not only aesthetic but also functional because it means a better weight distribution and balance and a more comfortable and performing ride.
Thanks to the use of carbon in the frame and in the parts (bar, seat post, wheels), the bike is super light compared with the competitors on the market (only 16kg). Moreover, the carbon frame is realized with an innovative technology (autoclave carbon). The advantage of lightness is a bike more maneuverable and more performing. Strong innovation also in the motor and the transmission.
The high torque German Brose mid motor is fully integrated with the carbon frame. The belt drive transmission warranties super silent drive and no maintenance. Also the patented inside the frame Panasonic battery (500Wh – 13,6A – 36V) is fully integrated and easy removable for recharge. The bike is completed by hydraulic disc brakes and Shimano components.
“Evoluzione represents a perfect synthesis of our spirit: sporty character and eco-friendly soul” affirms Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman of the Group. “Sporty and dynamic, a harmonic bike able to guarantee high performances and great comfort”.
