Santini Reprises the Iconic Mapei Kit

Santini is celebrating three decades of partnership with Mapei, reprising the Italian team’s iconic cube motif that dominated the peloton during the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s with a new kit.

“For many years, the story of Santini and Mapei, two Italian companies, has been intertwined with that of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). The former produces technical cycling clothing and has been a UCI sponsor since 1988; the latter, a multinational leader in the field of chemical products for the construction industry, came into the world of cycling in 1993 as a sponsor of a UCI first division team. A team destined to enjoy major success all over the world, wearing a uniform made by Santini. The bond between Santini, Mapei and UCI, a long-lasting relationship, is celebrated in 2023 with a cycling kit, in honor of Mapei’s 30th anniversary in this sport,” says Santini.

After a hiatus from the sport, Mapei reaffirmed its commitment to cycling in 2008 as the main sponsor of the UCI Road World Championships. Mapei continues its tradition as the official partner of the UCI World Championships that take place in Glasgow and across Scotland this year.

To celebrate, Santini has created a special edition kit bearing both the UCI and Mapei’s insignias alongside the squad’s iconic colored cubes, a call-out to the construction world where the Italian company is a major player.

“The use of colored cubes as a decorative motif on the team uniform, together with the spatula strokes, typical of Mapei products, was the idea of Adriana Spazzoli, Mapei Marketing and Communications Director until 2019, who perfectly understood the communicative potential of this sponsorship. Thanks to the team’s exceptional results, Mapei cubes soon became iconic, redefining the aesthetics of cycling clothing and contributing to the company’s fame in Italy and around the world,” says Santini.

The jersey features a slim-cut fit that’s made with extremely lightweight fabrics, along with super breathable fabric that comprises small channels for optimal ventilation, while raw-cut sleeves and an elastic waist adhere to the body without restricting movement.

The bibshort features the same aesthetic, with fabric chosen for its compression properties, highlighted by internal leg grippers and a breathable mesh back.

The 30th Anniverday Mapei kit is available www.santinicycling.com, or in select stores worldwide.
