Shimano Flaunts Updated S-PHYRE Road Shoe

After extensive research and testing with top riders in the pro peloton like Jumbo-Visma’s Robert Gesink, Sepp Kuss and Wout Van Aert, Team Sunweb’s  Cees bol, Nikias Arndt and Marc Hirshi, Arkea / SAMSIC PRO Continental’s Warren Barguil, Diego Rosa and Winner Anacona, Shimano is flaunting its redesigned flagship S-PHYRE road shoe for this season.

Utilizing its Bikefitting.com pedal analyzer, Shimano says its engineers took a 3D look at pedaling dynamics to better understand how pressure is applied throughout the pedal stroke, wherein they discovered distinct zones where force is exerted differently across the shoe.

From there, the engineers optimized the new S-PHYRE’s shape and materials to maximize power transfer while maintaining a comfortable and lightweight design.

Additionally, the new S-PHYRE’s upper construction features ultra-breathable, reinforced mesh and micro-fiber leather materials that are layered in different regions to maximize fit, flexibility, rigidity, and ventilation. Moreover, the shoe’s upper construction is now more rigid toward the rear of the shoe in order to hold the foot securely in place, while more flexible and elastic materials were used up front to increase comfort.

The S-PHYRE also debuts a new 360-Degree Surround Upper design, the newest evolution of Shimano’s surround wrapping upper technology, whereby the enhanced design completely wraps the shoe upper, including across the base of the shoe to create a more comfortable and secure fit than ever.

“The new design delivers a surreal connect to the pedals,” explains Jessie Gascon, Shimano’s Lifestyle Gear Product Manager. “The S-PHYRE has  remarkable holding power and provide the sensation that power is being 100% transferred with every pedal stroke.”

Extolling a “slipper-like fit”, the S-PHYRE features a sleek new BOA Fit System Li2 closure system with two lightweight dials that deliver precise micro-adjustments and exceptional grip.

The new shoe is further highlighted by a refined Dynalast shape with an expanded fit to accommodate a wider range of foot shapes and sizes, with a redesigned toe box that delivers more room in targeted areas for added comfort while maintaining a secure and stable fit.

Also utilizing its Bikeftting.com pedal analyzer, Shimano redesigned the S-PHYRE’s heel cup to further optimize fit and foot stability, adding its new anti-twist stabilizer heel cup technology to combat twisting forces caused by explosive accelerations, which features a mix of rigid and flexible materials that stabilize the top section of the heel cup to reduce foot movement and increase power transfer.

The S-PHYRE retails for $425, with availability starting in October.
