While there are many cycling jackets on the market touting windproof and water resistant capabilities, few can boast having actual waterproof properties.
The Italian brand Sportful, which has been around since the early 1970’s, is offering a new waterproof jacket this season called the Stelvio, which was initially designed alongside the former WorldTour Tinkoff team.
According to Sportful, the Stelvio represents the “next generation” of cycling jackets, combining optimal breathability and waterproof capabilities in a body-contouring fit, that provides ample stretch and packability which can be easily tucked away in a jersey pocket.
Sportful says it uses a special fabric called RainWick Stretch, which is multi-layer, waterproof membrane (20,000mm), combined with a durable polyamide outer layer, that’s capable of shedding water before it has a chance of permeating the fabric.
The inside of the jacket features fully taped seams and a light mesh finish that give the Stelvio the ability to wick moisture away from the body, while providing maximum breathability with an industry rating of 50,000 g/m2/24hrs.
Other features include, a full-length YKK Vision zipper that has an internal storm flap and a small compartment to “park” the zipper and keep it away from the neck. In addition, the Stelvio features a couple of reflective logos which have been placed in key areas along the jacket for added visibility.
The Stelvio is available in bright yellow for increased visibility, or a subdued grey for the cyclist who prefers a more understated look.
