The Elite TUO Smart Trainer Takes Style to a New Level

There’s a myriad of stationary bike trainers on the market, each touting superiority over the other by virtue of more features.

However, if trainers were judged by style alone, Elite’s TUO would likely trump them all.

Designed in partnership with the Italian studio, Adriano Design, the TUO was developed to not only offer cyclists an innovative, interactive trainer with smart technology, but also as stylish piece of furniture to complement its surroundings.

“Powerful and beautiful during use, yet elegant when stored, this home trainer is worth having in any living room because of its compact structure with a metal frame and beechwood legs. Beechwood is regarded as one of the best materials for furniture making because of its strength properties and high abrasion resistance. Despite its hardness, beechwood can also absorb shocks. This contributes in making TUO the ideal tool to train effectively (even during the most challenging sessions), while having a perfect integration to your home that seamlessly merges with any existing furniture,” says Elite.

In addition to good looks, the TUO stands out for its compact design that includes an easily foldable frame and legs, ensuring quick setup when in use, and a small footprint when the workout is over.

According to Elite, the TUO is capable of measuring power output with a ±3% accuracy, while also having the ability to simulate gradients up to 10%.

The TUO also introduces a new algorithm developed by Elite in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM, Deutschland, to ensure a power calculation that’s based on real pedaling variations. To do so, the algorithm doesn’t just use speed, weight and slope data, but it also considers the effect of the energy stored by the flywheel during sudden variations in speed.

Additionally, the TUO is an interactive trainer that features ANT+ FE-C and Bluetooth FTMS protocols, making it compatible with virtually any app, software, computer, smartphone and tablet via iOS, Android, OSX and Windows, giving the user total customization and interactivity for his or her training sessions.

The 23-pound TUO measures 680 x 690 x 410mm when open and 430 x 315 x 560mm when folded, which can accommodate bikes with 130 x 5mm rear quick release skewers up to Boost 148 x 12mm thru axles and wheels up to 29in. Moreover, like other Elite trainers, the TUO features anti-slip rubber feet, a Fast Fixing locking system and a roller that’s made from Elastogel, a polyurethane designed to limit noise and tire wear.

The Elite TUO sells for £399.99.
