Boivin Guillaume (cycling Academy Team) claimed the victory in a thrilling sprint finish on stage 1 of the Tour du Rwanda. Zemenfes SOLOMON (Eritrea) finished second with Tesfom OKUBAMARIAM (Eritrea) in third and EYOBMetkel (Dimension Data for Qhubeka) fading into fourth.
“I am very happy for the win today. It’s an amazing feeling.We’ve been here for a couple of days and it’s really a good experience.The crowds are really great, the fans are so amazing.I am really happy.” said Guillaume
Pre-race favorite and last year runner-up Areruya Joseph finished safely in the bunch to seal a slim one second ahead of Cycling Academy’s Guillaume BOIVIN and NSENGIMANAJean Bosco (Stradalli – Bike Aid).
“It feels good to be in yellow and I want to keep it. It’s up to us to work hard” said Areruya.
