Former Tour du Rwanda winner and pre-race favorite Valens Ndayisenga (Dimension Data) won stage 2 of Tour du Rwanda and claimed the yellow jersey after a late attack which allowed him take victory without waiting for the sprint finish.
The 2014 Tour du Rwanda winner who was the first Rwandan to win the race since it was sanctioned by UCI in 2009, said he is looking to become the first rider to win the race twice.
“It feels good to win the stage but most importantly to take the yellow. Together with my teammates at Dimension Data, we will fight to keep it.”
Suleiman Kangangi (Kenyan Riders Downunder), who got away with Valens, had to settle for second best at one minute and six seconds.
Areruya Joseph (Les Amis Sportifs) led the bunch across the line to finish third but conceded the yellow jersey of race leader.
