VAN RYSEL has lifted the curtains on its FTP^2 concept bike, an exercise in radical bike design that aims to push the boundaries of speed, aerodynamics and integrated performance.
“Like a bike from another planet, the FTP^2 concept bike is a creative approach that places VAN RYSEL at the forefront of research, design and innovation. Integration lies at the heart of this project, redefining the relationship between rider and bike, with a purpose-designed helmet, shoe, and skinsuit completing the system. It is the most complex project ever carried out by us,” says VAN RYSEL.
Designed and developed over several years in collaboration with key partners such as Swiss Side, the FTP^2 concept bike is built around the idea of doubling the rider’s FTP, hence the name FTP^2, featuring a unique MAHLE e-bike motor that was specifically developed for the project.
Equipped for the Future
“The project represents a fully integrated ecosystem, combining the bike, cockpit, helmet, clothing and shoes that were all co-developed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency and safety,” boasts VAN RYSEL.
Key innovations include:
“With Project FTP^2, we deliberately stepped outside traditional cycling industry frameworks. For the first time, we have manufactured a unique carbon frame capable of being ridden in the real world. Doubling the rider’s FTP, removing speed limits, and developing our own electronics, cockpit and textiles allowed us to explore extreme performance in a controlled and thoughtful way. Every component was designed as part of a single system designed to push the boundaries of what is possible. The project itself represents the most complex development we have undertaken at VAN RYSEL to date,” says Wim Van Hoecke, FTP^2 Project Manager and VAN RYSEL E-Bike Product Manager.
Unfortunately, the VAN RYSEL FTP^2 concept bike won’t become available to the general public.
