Wilier is flaunting the latest model in its Filante series of road bikes called the Filante SL, touting many of the same accolades as the Italian brand’s more costly Filante SLR at a more affordable price – not that the new rig is by any means cheap.
According to Wilier, the Filante SL follows much of the same design language as its more expensive sibling, albeit with a different grade of HUS-MOD carbon fiber and a less intensive construction process in order to bring the cost down, resulting in just a 150 gram increase in weight over the SLR variant. Otherwise, it inherits the same tube profiles and shapes, while the geometry remains the same, which still spans six sizes.
“The Filante SL gains its form, its lines and its racing spirit from the Filante SLR, our high-end aero racing bike. What makes the change beneficial is the application of few and simple technical solutions. The different carbon fiber lamination used for the frame gives it a less extreme and more comfortable structure compared to the SLR version,” says Wilier.
To further keep the cost down, Filante SL forgoes a carbon cockpit in favor of aluminum handlebars, stem and seatpost. But, the bike is treated to the same internal cable and hose routing, conferring the same clean aesthetic as the SLR.
The Filante SL is offered in the following guises, with pricing for a complete bike starting at €5,100 (approximately $5,500), all the way up to €7,000 (approximately $7,500) for the range-topping model.
