Zipp Unveils New Disc Brake Tubeless-Ready 353 NSW Wheelset

Zipp has unveiled its latest disc brake, tubeless-ready wheelset called the 353 NSW, which revisits the brand’s Sawtooth rim profile that first broke-cover with its 454 NSW carbon clinchers back in 2016.

“With its undulating 45mm deep rim shape, the 353 NSW provides speed on every terrain with best-in-class aerodynamic efficiency and crosswind stability,” says Zipp. “The 353 NSW is Zipp’s lightest tubeless wheelset yet, making it a fast-puncher ready to fight its way into the breakaway.

The 353 NSW wheelset use hookless rims, making mounting and dismounting tires “seamless and aero as possible” says Zipp.

“Zipp’s 353 NSW’s Sawtooth rim shape with Hyperfoils optimizes aerodynamic efficiency and crosswind stability,” adds Zipp. “The Sawtooth design also allows the rim to be structurally strong but light. That will help you snap out of corners and maintain that speed no matter the terrain, especially the steep, punchy stuff.”

According to Zipp, the 353 NSW weighs in at 1255 grams (580g front/ 675g rear), an impressive feat for any wheelset, let alone one that’s tubeless ready and disc brake specific.

Additionally, Zipp says the 25mm internal width is optimized for 28mm tires and above, while the new Cognition Axial Clutch V2 rear hub houses all of its elements in a single-piece design. Moreover, friction is further reduced by incorporating a foam-like damper made from Sylome, while 24 basic metal spokes for both front and rear ensure strength and reliability.

The 353 NSW wheelset sells for $1,800 / £1,425 / €1,600 for the front wheel and $2,200 / £1,775 / €2,000 for the rear, which is available with either a Shimano/SRAM 11 freehub or XDR hub (Campagnolo freehubs are available separately).

Our 353 NSW Tubeless Disc-brake wheelset is the pinnacle of our pursuit of versatility and speed. This wheelset fuses Zipp’s two most advanced approaches, Sawtooth rim profile and TSE, for an all-encompassing approach to performance. With its undulating 45-mm deep rim shape, the 353 NSW provides speed on every terrain with best-in-class aerodynamic efficiency and crosswind stability. The 353 NSW is Zipp’s lightest tubeless wheelset yet, making it a fast-puncher ready to fight its way into the breakaway. Zipp’s use of hookless (straight side) rims in the 353 NSW is integral to achieving our mission of Making You Faster. With hookless, the transition between the tire and the rim is more seamless and aero. Zipp’s hookless rims have more efficient resin distribution, which means lighter wheels. They also are highly durable. Zipp’s 353 NSW’s Sawtooth™ rim shape with Hyperfoils™ optimizes aerodynamic efficiency and crosswind stability. The Sawtooth™ design also allows the rim to be structurally strong but light. That will help you snap out of corners and maintain that speed no matter the terrain, especially the steep, punchy stuff. The 353 NSW utilizes Zipp’s Total System Efficiency, or TSE™, approach to wheel design: overcoming specific barriers to speed: wind resistance, gravity, rolling resistance, and vibration losses. The wheelset’s 25mm internal width is ideal for running wider tubeless tires at reduced air pressure for a more efficient ride. At the center of the 353 NSW is the Cognition V2 Hubset re-engineered with an updated Axial Clutch V2™ mechanism for quicker engagement and lower friction as well as improved durability.
