2013 Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli

Leonardo Duque won the 2013 Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli today – the final Italian race of the season – in a sprint finale ahead of Manuele Mori and Elia Favilli.

The early part of the race was highlighted by a 15-man breakaway group  featuring former Giro d’Italia winner Damiano Cunego and others. However, the Italian and his escapees were reeled in by the peloton not far from the finish.

Subsequently, Davide Rebellin initiated an attack – riding clear with Domenico Pozzovivo and Kristijan Durasek in-tow. However, the trio was soon caught by the likes of Matteo Tosatto, David Villella and Daniele Colli who commenced a counter attack of their own. But, they too were caught by the main field.

The finale in Monteveglio came down to a bunch sprint, wherein Duque proved to be too strong for Mori, Favilli and Manuel Belletti.
