2013 Japan Cup Cycle Road Race Criterium

Steele Von Hoff won the 2013 Japan Cup Cycle Road Race Criterium in Ustonomiya yesterday – holding off the likes of Bernard Eisel and Aidis Kruopis at bay with an impressive sprint finish.

The Australian joined Garmin-Sharp at the start of the year after a season in the Conti ranks with Garmin’s now defunct development team. Though the sprinter has been close to wins on several occasions this season he’s been unable to break through at the top level until now.

The Japan Cup Criterium is the prelude the UCI 1.HC Road Race that’s held today on a hilly circuit outside of Ustonomiya city.

Today’s field also included former maillot vert winner Robbie McEwen, Cannondale’s Peter Sagan, Eisel, Kruopis and Tour stage winner Matteo Trentin.
