Boardman Bikes Launches New Elite Series

Boardman Bikes CEO Chris Boardman, introduced the brand’s new 2014 Elite series of bikes at a presentation in London this week.

In addition to the hugely popular, multiple title-winning Elite Series AiR, AiR/TT and SLR platforms, Boardman unveiled the all-new SLS, CXR and AiR/TTE models.

The SLS is classified as being an " all-day/endurance" frame combining comfort with performance. Where as the CXR is considered a multi-terrain off-road, or should we say – "gravel" bike.

This year’s AiR/TTE has been redesigned using the latest Computational Fluid Dynamics technology and wind tunnel testing. According to Boardman, the result is an "incredibly fast, super aerodynamic frame platform which has a 5% increase over the Kona winning AiR/TT."

“Genuine improvements have been made across the board. This latest incarnation has been informed by our R&D department over an intensive and extensive period of more than 2 years. We’ve utilized the latest CAD, CFD and FEA technologies and combined with non-traditional cycling industry knowledge as part of the process. The result is a range designed to give you a bike which will allow you to get the best performance from your ride. It will be exciting to see the Brownlee’s racing their new AiR/9.8′s next season.” Chris Boardman

“The 2014 range has been designed for the elite rider through to the serious enthusiast who appreciates a high performance product. We are extremely proud of the new Elite range which offers exceptional bikes whilst still maintaining the price competitiveness you expect from Boardman – and will be attractive to existing fans of Boardman and new customers alike. As an integral part of our company’s development we are looking to grow and add to our existing hand-picked, high-end independent bike shops across the UK and the world, allowing even more riders to access our bikes.” Andy Smallwood, Director of Operations

The first SLS, SLR and CXR models will be available during December, with further models being added early next year. The AiR/TTE will be available in Spring 2014.

– Disc specific full carbon fork with tapered steerer for increased

  stiffness and steering precision

– Fully mudguard and rear rack compatible

– Mechanical and Di2 compatible cable routing

Overview AiR/9.8

Aerodynamic Racing

Whether you’re racing for the win in the World Triathlon Championships or one of the world’s greatest road races, it’s all about exploiting minimal gains and the AiR/9.8 has enough of them to make the difference between the win and 2nd place. The AiR frame speaks for itself and is finished with a world-class component package. Boardman Bikes sponsored Alistair Brownlee, Olympic Champion 2012 and Jonathan Brownlee, Olympic Bronze medallist 2012 both ride the AiR/9.8.

Highlights

– New AiR Aerodynamic Racing frame, fork and seatpost

– Full high modulus carbon fibre monocoque construction

– Wind tunnel developed tube profiles for real world conditions

– Down tube, seat tube and seatpost shaped for maximized airflow and reduced wind

resistance in real world head and cross wind conditions

– Forks and seat stays have flat inside and curved outside surfaces for enhanced airflow

interaction between the frame and wheel. This is further enhanced when using deep section

  wheels

– Full internal cable routing with cables entering behind the headtube for further airflow

  enhancement and clean lines
– Rear brake positioned underneath chainstay
– Mould design incorporates one piece PF30 bottom bracket and optimized oversize box

section chainstays with steep taper at dropout for maximized power transfer and strength

– 4 position seat post to ensure that riding position can be dialled to either Road, TT or

  Triathlon disciplines
– Internal front brake for enhanced airflow

– Stable, predictable geometry to cope with all race situations

– Full carbon fork with tapered fork steerer for increased stiffness and steering precision

– Mechanical and Di2 compatible cable routing

Overview SLR

Superlight Racing

A bike capable of racing over the highest mountain passes in the world. The SLR/9.8 with its 798g frame, full carbon Boardman wheelset and SRAM Red 22 groupset is seriously light and is one of the lightest production bikes in the world -the SLR/9.8 comes in well under the UCI weight limit without compromise to spec or performance.
