GP Industria & Commercio di Prato 2014

Sonny Colbrelli claimed his second victory in a row, after winning the GP Industria & Commercio di Prato in Italy today.

The Italian rider sprinted to victory ahead of Kristian Sbaragli (MTN-Qhubeka) and Danielo Napolitano (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), after 186 kilometers of racing.

“I’m really happy for this second success in-a-row,” said Colbrelli, who won the Memorial Marco Pantani yesterday. “A win with the Italian jersey is always special.”

Colbrelli raced with his national team in preparation ahead of next weekend’s World Championships. “Thanks to Italian coach Aru working for me was a honour. I think today we showed a strong cohesion that will give us more confidence for the World Championships of next Sunday.”

Today’s race was comprised of two circuits, the first of which, included three climbs over the Carmignano, followed by the climb up the Rocca di Montemurlo no fewer than six times.

A breakaway group of 11 riders got underway within the first kilometer of today’s race. However, their advantage was kept to minimum through the day, before the peloton succeeded in reeling them in during the final kilometer.

From there, a field of approximately 40 riders lead the race into the final sprint, with Colbrelli once again emerging as the fastest rider.
