Six Days of Ghent 2014 Day 5



Following yesterday’s night of racing, Mark Cavendish and Iljo Keisse, maintained their grip at the top of the standings in this year’s Six Days of Ghent.

Despite Cavendish crashing earlier in the night, the duo remain one and and 48 seconds ahead of Jasper De Buyst and Kenny De Ketele – heading into this evening’s final night of racing. 

De Ketele and De Buyst regained the lead early in the evening, after taking victory in the team elimination.However, despite Cavendish taking a fall during the first Madison race of the evening, he quickly got back on his bike – for he and his teammate to win the race. The result of their victory, pushed them past the 300-point mark, to include a bonus lap, which moved them to the top of the standings.

Cavendish also took victory in second the derny race, while Madison World Champions Albert Torres and David Muntaner claimed victory in the final Madison of the evening.

“So proud of my mate, said Cavendish on Twitter. ! Crashed, jumped on his bike, took a doublette, suffered like hell, won that chase and took the lead!” 

Keisse wrote on Twitter after the session finished. “That’s how we do it, keep going, never give up, no pain no gain! Cav you are The Man! I love you in a good way!”

Leif Lampater and Silvain Dillier remain in third place, 18 points ahead of Alex Rasmussen and Marc Hester.
